Editing this review 5/2/2026. Another amazing experience at this fine establishment. The service is beyond stellar. Everyone is so nice there. Dave, our server, is our favorite. He is the best. I was very happy to have met Ryan, the new manager. He has a fabulous personality and is so engaging with the guests. He clearly wants everyone to be happy. He’s a great addition to the staff. Biggest shout out to the chicken cutlet. Always the best! Without a doubt this was my favorite meal and dining experience in 2025. From start to finish it was amazing. I am beyond impressed. Our server, Dave, was fantastic. His knowledge of the menu was impressive. He was attentive and kind. He really made the experience special. The food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back.

Definitely worth the splurge for a special occasion. The room was a bit loud but the food and service more than made up for it. We shared several small plates, an entree, and a dessert. All were noteworthy. The sweet breads (hard to find these days) were the best we’ve had and a highlight of the meal. The eggplant and the corn empanadas were also highlights. In addition, we shared the beets, the carrots, the lamb sausage, cauliflower arancini, the striped bass entree and the carrot cake dessert. All were elevated and delicious, pairing well with a nice selection of wines. I trust the steaks are great, too, but Balvanera is proof that high caliber Argentinian food doesn’t always have to include beef.
our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable of the whole menu, offering a bunch of suggestions which was nice. i love trying a bunch of food so the small plates are great. i would go back and just order 5 caesar salads. the date cake was super yummy! this would be a great date night spot
We are so happy that we had Chloe as our server. She was outstanding! My teen daughter said that she deserved a raise!!! Chloe was so thorough and patient with answering our questions and going over the menu with us. The food was delicious! We all talked about returning soon.
If I could give a million ⭐️ for every category I would! Cannot wait to go back and experience all of it again! Highly knowledgeable, attentive & kind management and staff. Food was so delicious and the presentation was perfection👌 It was so fun to dine at the bar! (Thx Anthony! 🙌🙏🏻) Our choices: Cocktails-Negroni, Spritz, Espresso Martini Food Items- Yellowtail Crudo, Beets w/ricotta salata & pistachios, Sausage w/piquillo & guindilla peppers. The Basque Cheesecake was divine!!
We visited Balvanera for the first time for an early Mother’s Day celebration, food was excellent, the empanadas were delicious with their chimichurri, meat was tender and flavored, mashed potatoes were good but I think their sweet potatoes were better. Atmosphere was super nice and private, it feels elegant, clean and very private. Deliciosa comida argentina. Our bill for 3 people came out to $436 with tip.
Quite possibly the best meal I've had in Pittsburgh at a restaurant. The small plates were phenomenal. Everything had a touch of attention and taste that was very unique. Also really enjoyed the mocktail selection and atmosphere. Lighting was really impressive. Steak was cooked to perfection. I am a sucker for chimichurri sauce and the steak was so good. I didn't really even need the sauce. Their dessert menu is long and I was sad that I could only order a few things after such an extensive meal. Pistachio ice cream was potentially the best pistachio ice cream I've ever had. The date cake was also phenomenal.
We hosted a Moms Night Out event at Balvanera this week and it was a flawless experience from start to finish! We worked with Noelle to reserve the Bodega in the bar area. Noelle was attentive, easy to work with, communicative and very accommodating to our specific needs. Our guests had the best time - the food was incredible, the vibe was perfect, and the service we received from River was excellent. The comments I was hearing from the group was that after always taking care of everyone else as moms, it was so nice to feel taken care of for the evening. Special mention goes to the Jamon Croquettes, Hamachi Crudo and the Alfajores! Kudos to Noelle, River, Chef Fernando, Meredith and the entire Balvanera team for an exceptional evening that left a lasting impression for our guests.
Really great spot for tapas and drinks with a great atmosphere! Balvanera had amazing service and great food and drinks to match. The pisco sour is one of my favorites, while each of the dishes were delicious and were great accompaniments.The standouts were the empanadas, tongue, and tartare, but nothing was a miss. Definitely a great place for a slightly formal but still relaxed casual meal!
